We’ve recently discovered that if you are having problems getting prospects to commit, or take seriously, what you have to offer then most likely they aren’t, and never were, your ideal client. Creating a customer profile of who would most benefit from your product or services will get you started with drawing them in.
Finding your ideal customer requires that we:
- Think like them – If we could transpose ourselves into their thought patterns, then attracting them to us would be a breeze. However, we do have to exercise some role play here in that we must ponder on those things that we believe concerns them most. What problems/issues do they commonly have? What could we do/offer that would help solve them? Things like this will help us to customize our content and marketing in a way that appeals to them.
- Become who they are – in other words, whatever niche your product or services covers, then be that. Be a product of your product. For example, if you’re in the health and wellness industry, then you want to become obsessed with being healthy. Buying organic foods, taking great care as to what you put on and in your body. Make sense? Here’s another example, if you like to travel, then you would want things that would make traveling easy, convenient and fun all at the same time. If we can mimic who they are, then our marketing propaganda will be effortless because we would know exactly what they are looking for and how to reach them.
- Do what they do – this part is two-fold. We must do what they do but we also must go where they go. We can’t know what they do unless we go where they go. Use networking events to go and connect with them. Don’t go with the intent to sale or pitch them; but, instead put your listening ears on and catch those things that they reveal is important to them. Understanding your customer demographics gives you a specific area to use for target marketing.
Using these three areas allows you to build a customer profile of your ideal customer. Understanding their needs AND their wants gives you the ability to provide valuable content they can use, and obtain, FREE of charge. And, what does that do for you? It establishes you as an authority figure in your niche market causing them to be “attracted” to you and seek you to do business with over your competitors.
