Extroverts typically don’t have this concern; but introverts, on the other hand, do. We overthink things and literally conjure up this grandiose scenario in our head, we wimp out and let the lead slip right by us. All of us need to make a decision to just go for it no matter how we feel or what we think. Just do it.
Here are 3 things that we’ve found to be helpful during times where we tend to be overthinking it:
- Pray for boldness – you read that correctly. Yes, pray for boldness. The Bible says “God did not give us a spirit of fear, but one of power, and of love, and of a sound mind”. Pray that when you don’t know what to say, that He will speak through you as long as you just open your month. He didn’t bless you with this opportunity for you to keep it to yourself. He gave it to you so you can be a blessing to others; however, they will never know what you do, or have in store for them, if you don’t speak up.
- Go with your first instinct – if we allow ourselves to go with our gut, then we would be on point every time. Instead our overthinking leads to negative thoughts causing us to miss our opportunity. Stop overthinking! Just go for it. People are being placed in your path for a reason. When you feel that urge to approach, do it. He’ll take care of the rest. Stop being afraid. The worst that could happen is that they tell you “I’m not interested”. Being told No is not going to kill you. Instead, the more we’re told No, the less painful it becomes and it loses it power over us causing us to shy away from rejection. Keep approaching prospects and take the sting out of being told No.
- Relax, breathe and converse – as you are approaching the prospect, take a deep breath and release the anxiety and overthinking. Deep breathing will help you relax and allow the conversation to flow. You’ll find that you will stop over thinking things and finally realize that it wasn’t so bad after all. It was all in your head.
Making good decisions to rid yourself of overthinking will boost your confidence and reassures you that you are worthy of being successful, you are very capable of growing your business, and what doesn’t kill you can only make you stronger.
